Following the success of the 2019 edition of Dance Journeys, Renaud Wiser returns to this exciting engagement programme with English National Ballet for a new collaboration with Choreographer Malgorzata Dzierzon.
This year marks a pinnacle of achievement for English National Ballet, celebrating 70 years of artistic excellence, innovative collaborations, and bringing world-class ballet to the widest possible audience. Dance Journeys 2020 is inspired by the Company’s platinum anniversary, celebrating the remarkable history and the sheer joy of dance.
During a 12-week rehearsal process, students from Bishop Challoner Catholic Federation of Schools, Copthall School and Friern Barnet School formed the Dance Journeys 2020 Company alongside ENBYouthCo. With the direction and guidance of professional artists, the students have worked together to create this original work, Postcards to Alicia.
Using the Company’s legacy as a springboard for creativity, Postcards to Alicia celebrates English National Ballet’s people and history. Taking a journey across times and places, the past and present is explored, re-imagined and reinvigorated with the energy of 70 young performers.
The rehearsal process has been an extremely collaborative one: each performer brings some of their own unique movement to the piece, created in response to the work, images and recordings from English National Ballet’s history.
Postcards to Alicia is co-directed by choreographers Malgorzata Dzierzon and Renaud Wiser and created in collaboration with associated artists Katie Cambridge, Ihsaan de Banya and Luke Brown.
With costumes by Louie Whitemore and lighting by Chris Swain, this year’s production features a captivating score composed by Szymon Brzóska, recorded by the orchestra of talented young musicians from the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
The performance of Postcards to Alicia was concelled due to Covid 19
